Check Traceability
Traceability records should connect the packed avocados to the relevant farm or grower group and packing activity. Lot codes, intake records, packing records and dispatch documents help demonstrate that certified and non-certified produce are correctly identified.
Review Handling and Segregation
Where a supplier handles both organic and conventional produce, the buyer should ask how the products are separated during receiving, storage, grading and packing. Cleaning procedures, labelling and record keeping are important parts of protecting the integrity of an organic consignment.
Agree on the Commercial Specification
Certification does not replace the normal product specification. Buyers should still confirm variety, maturity, size count, grade, packaging, volume, dispatch timing and destination requirements. Hass and Fuerte availability can vary with the harvest cycle and sourcing area.
